Wittily subverting the crime genre – and as wicked as Fay Weldon – Stella Duffy has written five crime novels in the Saz Martin series, and five literary novels, including State of Happiness, which was longlisted for the Orange Prize and which she is currently adapting for film. She has also published around 30 short stories and writes prolifically for print, radio and theatre. During the festival, Duffy will be discuss Singling Out The Couples (Virago), a modern-day fairytale about a princess without a heart who takes great delight in breaking up loving couples. That is, until she discovers a tiny heart growing in her chest...
Stella Duffy will also be performing her highly-acclaimed, one-woman play, Breaststrokes, a moving and humorous work based on her own experiences of breast cancer at the Posthoornkerk at 21.30 tonight.
