The first of two classic German children's films based on the popular novels by Enrich Kästner (1899-1974), which the Goethe-Institut are screening as part of ALF 2007. Kästner was one of Germany's most famous authors, noted especially for his progressive and perceptive children't literature.
Pünktchen und Anton (Caroline Link, Ger, 1999) tells the story of best friends Pünktchen and Anton.
Pünktchen is the daughter of a wealthy young surgeon and a mother who is away a lot of the time, travelling the world. By contrast, Anton is the son of a single mother who is poor and ill. Pünktchen decides to help her friend out by singing in public places to raise money. When Anton steals a golden lighter, her secret life is discovered by her parents and both families must take action. For children over 6 years.
